ICE systems have a proven track record assisting organisations with datacentre solutions.  As one of the leading system integrators focusing on Linux and open source solutions, ICE Systems realised the potential for companies using Linux in the datacentre and was one of the pioneers in Unix to Linux solutions. Today ICE Systems is a market leader in Linux in the datacentre and now has another solution for the datacentre.  It is now possible to run old Solaris/SPARC applications on x86, Itanium or virtual environments such as Vmware or Xen. ICE Systems partners with Transitive in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia to assist organisations with this rejuvenating solution.

Transitive’s mainstream datacentre consolidation solution is known as QuickTransit Server. This is the most widely-deployed enterprise version of QuickTransit, and it is used by IT managers worldwide to reduce the physical size and power/cooling requirements of their IT infrastructure, as well as simplifying system administration and infrastructure management by allowing broader standardization of server hardware and management tools. The robust QuickTransit Server is a popular solution for facilitating datacentre consolidation projects, since it is ideal for running a wide range of internally-developed and commercial Solaris/SPARC workloads on fast, efficient industry-standard server platforms, so that ageing and costly SPARC-based hardware can be rapidly retired. Since the migrated Solaris/SPARC application binaries can run directly on QuickTransit Server, without requiring the expense and delays of porting or re-compilation of source code, the resulting consolidation cost savings are immediate and substantial.

Transitive offers a unique solution known as QuickTransit Legacy, for customers running extremely old Solaris/SPARC applications, where the age and maintainability of the hardware represents a significant IT risk. In fact, in the situation where a legacy Solaris/SPARC application is running on an environment that is beyond its “end of life” date and no longer supported, QuickTransit Legacy is usually the only solution for effective migration of the application to new hardware. Based on years of experience in assisting customers with innovative application migration solutions, Transitive’s QuickTransit Legacy has been fine-tuned to support workloads from SPARC systems running Solaris 2.5.1, Solaris 2.6 or above. By transporting these workloads to smaller, cheaper and faster industry-standard server platforms, QuickTransit helps customer eliminate the legacy hardware risk entirely, without disrupting the application or the users who depend on it.
